Richmond Lacrosse Club is hiring!

Greater London Lacrosse Director

  • Location: Wandsworth, Richmond & East Sussex (linked with Spencer, Richmond and East Grinstead Lacrosse Clubs)

  • Start Date: September 2022 (in order to deliver school sessions which are already confirmed)

  • Pay: Equivalent to London career salary

  • Hours: Full time equivalent

Background to the Role

The Greater London Lacrosse Director role has been developed via a partnership between Spencer, Richmond and East Grinstead Lacrosse Clubs. All three clubs are committed to making significant improvements to the infrastructure and development of  junior girls and boys lacrosse. We have created this role and already have several schools booked in for lacrosse sessions either during curriculum time or as before/after school clubs, starting in September 2022.

Job Description

The role of the Lacrosse Director will be to greatly increase participation in regular junior lacrosse activities at key sites in London and East Sussex.

The overall objective of the programme is to introduce as many children to competitive lacrosse as possible.  This role is split between time spent delivering sessions practically, alongside administration of the lacrosse growth programme across all three sites.

In order to achieve this, the successful applicant will be leading lacrosse in schools, teaching children about the game and promoting the clubs as a place to further their interest in the game. The Lacrosse Director will be required to work some weekends (ordinarily on Sundays) delivering key sessions for clubs, but will not be expected to work more than 35 hours per week.

This will require marketing/communication skills, strong attention to detail and the ability to push the programme into new settings.

While the role demands a confident self-starter who is able to draw on their own initiative to solve problems and seize opportunities, the Lacrosse Director will have support from a pool of highly experienced mentors to provide advice and guidance on all elements of the programme.

Practical Roles & Responsibilities

  • Delivering coaching sessions in school for children from 5-14 years old

  • Delivering club junior sessions

  • Owning key relationships with schools, clubs and parents

  • Promoting this growth initiative and securing relationships with schools to deliver lacrosse

  • Leading and managing groups of coaches to deliver successful camps during school holidays

  • Coordinating volunteers associated with the growth initiative to ensure sessions have the required adults available on site where necessary

  • “Selling” the growth initiative to schools on a long-term basis

Individual Profile

The Lacrosse Director should be motivated by the challenge which faces junior lacrosse, as a minority sport, in England currently, and excited to be a part of a community project. We’re looking for a pro-active, self-starter who will bring fresh ideas and energy to inspire those around them. The successful applicant will be someone whose passion for the game creates smiling faces and creates enthusiasm among both children and parents. There is a requirement to want to deliver a professional service, be highly organised and show entrepreneurial spirit. It would be advantageous if the candidate can drive, however this is not a prerequisite. You must also have the right to work in the UK.

Relevant Experience

The ideal candidate will have had previous  experience working in schools, academic or community sport settings to coordinate sport at a participation / grassroots level. The successful candidate must have plenty of experience working with children under the age of 16, with an emphasis on 8-12 year olds preferable but not mandatory.

The ability to engage and create a sense of fun with children is a higher priority than lacrosse experience. A basic understanding of fundamentals of catching and throwing is the only lacrosse experience required and our programme can support training for the right candidate.
