About Us

Richmond Lacrosse was founded in 2021 to bring one of the most exciting and fastest growing team sports to West London's youngsters.

Starting in late April 2021 and based at Old Deer Park, Richmond Lacrosse will launch with a 12 week programme of lacrosse for boys and girls aged under 10.

We'll be launching additional age groups in September 2021 so please do sign up to our newsletter (below) to keep up to date as we expand.

All equipment will be provided and sessions will be run by our team of highly qualified coaches, many of who have represented their country on the world stage and no previous playing experience is necessary. Our non contact  sessions will focus on getting kids active and having fun while coaching catching, throwing, scooping and running based skills.

You can sign up for our 12 week season or purchase a taster session here. We can't wait to welcome you to Richmond's newest sports programme.

What is Lacrosse?

It is a sport for men and women, which has been heralded as “the fastest game on two feet”.

It's a team sport where players try to get a rubber ball into a net or goal using their stick. Players can run, carry, catch, shoot, and pass the ball with the net of the stick. The lacrosse team with the most goals at the end of the time period wins the game.

The male and female versions of the sport have some significant differences but the core skills of both are identical as it's a very athletic and active sport.

At an U10 level, boys and girls play a non contact version of the sport together as they learn the core skills of passing, catching, scooping and running with the ball.

At U12s they will split into dedicated programmes which help them to build on the core skills they've developed.

Steph Gibson

HEAD COACH

Steph grew up playing the game of lacrosse in the South of England, earning representative honours at the regional level and enjoying success domestically with her club Centaurs.

Steph has years of experience teaching and delivering lacrosse in schools and she will lead our sessions in Summer 2021, providing a fun and supportive atmosphere for the kids.

Sam Perry

COACH

Sam started playing Lacrosse at primary school, and the sport has been a major part of his life for the 17 years since. His journey with Lacrosse has seen him play at every tier of the Southern league pyramid and includes a period in the England Universities team. He is rarely seen in public without a stick in his hand, and spends the majority of his free time playing the game, or putting hours into Southern Box Lacrosse, a charity he co-founded in 2018.

Gaining his first qualification at 16, Sam has accumulated a wealth of experience coaching boys and girls of all ages. While he has spent time in performance programs, and as Head of Lacrosse within a school system, Sam’s true coaching passion lies in bringing new players to the game.

TOM ROCHE

CO-FOUNDER & HEAD OF LACROSSE

Tom grew up playing lacrosse in his home town of Mellor, Greater Manchester. He developed a passion for the game as a junior himself, when his close group of friends from their small village won the national cup competition for under 12s.

The early days of fun on the lacrosse pitch developed into a passion for the game which has taken him all over the world, playing in the US, Czech Republic, Canada, Finland and more. As a coach Tom has worked with children and adults of varying abilities, from complete beginners to the top of the domestic game; as a player he has enjoyed success with Mellor and Spencer lacrosse clubs, and recently captained England to a 4th place finish at the indoor World Championships in Langley BC.

As Head of Lacrosse it is Tom's ambition to build a lacrosse product for parents which can engage their children with this fun and different game, through local competition and access to coaches at the very top of the game. As Richmond and its surrounding teams grow, it's Tom's mission to deliver the same great experiences in lacrosse which he remembers from growing up.

ROB ARNOTT

CO-FOUNDER & HEAD OF OPERATIONS

Rob was first introduced to lacrosse while studying at Durham University. Having played almost every sport on offer while growing up, lacrosse was a new and exciting concept. He quickly threw himself into learning the basic skills while it was the speed of the game and team camaraderie which ensured these early experiences cemented a long term love for the sport.

Since those early days of learning the game as a student Rob has gone on to play many seasons of Premier Division lacrosse, has represented the South of England and in 2013 won the European Club Cup with his club team, Spencer.

These days, his passion and energy lies in introducing the sport to the next generation.  Having only picked up the sport at 19 he wants to make sure that today's youngsters have the opportunity to try the sport from a young age.

There really isn't a better sport for boys and girls to try. It's fun, team orientated and a great way to stay active.
